The History of Sarum Youth FC
Sarum Youth FC was formed from a team that was first created in 2002 as part of Salisbury Juniors. Coached and managed by Jon Hill the young team progressed well. In 2004 this team became part of the Salisbury City FC juniors set up. After three years however it was apparent that a new direction was required, not just for the boys in the team but for football in the Salisbury area. With the full support of parents and players the team formed a new club – Sarum Youth FC in 2007.
In 2008 the club was granted FA Charter Status, and then with effect of the 2009/10 season the number of teams that represented the club rose to 5, this also coincided with the FA upgrading our charter status to a Development Club. The total number of teams increased further the following season to 8 teams. With effect of the 2012 season the club had ten teams in various leagues and a thriving girls section, once again we were upgraded by the FA to a Charter Community Club, the pinnacle of the charter hierarchy. The 2013/14 season saw Sarum Youth create a mens team, it being apparent that options within the city were very limited for progression. Wishing to offer the older boys and men a good standard of football in a well run league we opted for the Wiltshire league. Also forming a good link with Bemerton Heath FC who have a history of nurturing talent at older youth age groups, a number of the older boys have the option of playing in the Wiltshire floodlit league under Bemerton’s colours.
All of our coaches are qualified through the FA course programs. All of the money raised by the club is channelled back to the children. This is the reason that our playing surfaces, training equipment, sports floodlighting and kit is one of the best in the county. Our membership fee is listed on this website, and pound for pound we offer better value. Based at Pembroke Park School we are blessed with an excellent relationship with the school and their management. The playing fields fall under Sarum’s responsibility for maintenance and we invest in these to ensure both the football club and the school have excellent playing surfaces.
A number of children from the club have gone on to play and train with Southampton Academy, Bournemouth Academy and Swindon Academy. We actively encourage this move as unlike any clubs locally to Salisbury they offer a chance of progression to the professional game.
